Security guards, private investigators and personnel of security guard agencies are advised that the Private Investigators and Security Guard Unit of the Prime Minister’s Office, Weymouth Corporate Centre, Roebuck Street, St. Michael, has begun the process of renewing licences for 2022.
Persons employed in security should contact the Unit at 535-5467 or 535-5457, or email leonard.cyrus@barbados.gov.bb or shauna.yarde@barbados.gov.bb, to schedule an appointment to renew their licence, Monday to Friday, between 8:15 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Security Officer II, Investigations, Leonard Cyrus, has reminded those employed in security that the Private Investigators and Security Guards Act states that no person may provide services as a private investigator or security guard, or operate an agency engaged in the business of providing those services, unless licensed under the Act.
Any person who contravenes the Act “is guilty of an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine of $5,000, or imprisonment of two years, or both”.
The current security licences will expire on Friday, December 31, 2021, and they must be renewed by Monday, January 31, 2022. (BGIS)
